Good Hair Day commonly known as ghd is one of the biggest brands in the hair industry, especially when it comes to hair styling and hair care. Step into the world of session stylist Zoe Irwin, ghd’s UK Brand Ambassador. She has more than one string to her bow, as she is also the Principle Hair Creative at Blow Ltd.
Zoe’s role is definitely a varied one, as she said one minute she could be – “brainstorming a hair look with a designer, and the next working backstage at a show, or creating hair for a music video, or working on a fashion editorial story, or looking after a celebrity.” Is there anything she can’t do?
Want to learn how to use your ghd? Look no further, Zoe Irwin has a number of tutorials on how to use certain ghd stylers to create different hairstyles for different hair types, straight, wavy, curly or kinky hair. Check out one of such tutorials below, we love how Zoe Irwin created three different looks using the eclipse styler, certainly something to try this summer for that simple yet stunning look.
Television and radio presenter Jameela Jamil credits Zoe as doing her hair ‘perfectly’, and we definitely agree, as her long locks always looks luscious and perfectly in place. Jameela is not the only celebrity on Zoe’s enviable client list, she has worked with celebrities like Little Mix and Missy Elliott.
Zoe Irwin started her career with an apprenticeship at a local hair salon called Hair Workshop in Sussex, where she trained on the job and took courses to learn her craft. She then moved into the beauty industry working at Harvey Nichols, but after a year she “missed the buzz of the salon” so she took a job in London and since then, she has never looked back.
While working at a salon and doing PR shots, she was spotted by legendary session stylist Guido Paulo who invited her to be part of his team. Zoe Irwin then spent time learning traditional and classical styles of hair in Italy and France before returning to be an assistant for Guido Paulo.
Zoe Irwin’s advise to any budding session stylists is to get as much experience as possible – “You need to get going as early as possible in your career. Give up your free time to assist, learn and research and make session work a priority.”
And her advise to those of us who just want to have great hair, Zoe swears by the product ghd Heat Protect Spray. She uses it before blow drying, and in the summer as protection from the sun, saying it leaves her hair “with a light softness” that she loves. A must have, so add it to your shopping lists for protection, soft, and shiny hair!
Session styling is all about preparing hair for models, celebrities and actors about to step out on the catwalk, photo shoot, film set or red carpet event.
